A newly published study in Genes, led by Prof. Lynne S. Rosenblum and colleagues at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, evaluates the performance of ASI’s HiBand v8.4.2 AI-based metaphase finder in a clinical cytogenetics laboratory.
The study compared the new AI-based algorithm with a conventional, optimized metaphase finder across 105 peripheral blood and bone marrow specimens. Results demonstrated how the “out-of-the-box” AI-assisted algorithm proved effective in the identification of true metaphases while reducing the detection of debris compared with the conventional classifier.
For cytogenetics laboratories, more accurate metaphase identification can help reduce unnecessary image review and enable more focused, efficient workflows, while preserving the essential role of expert interpretation.
